Prograis vs Velasco Odds

Prograis vs Velasco Odds – Undefeated Regis Prograis (21-0) defends his interim WBC world super lightweight title this Saturday against Juan Jose Velasco (20-0). Promoters Bob Arum, Lou DiBella and Sampson Lewkowicz have a ten fight boxing card planned for the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans that sees the main events air on ESPN. Check your local listings for start times.

Prograis vs Velasco Odds

Prograis was born in New Orleans and he resides in nearby Houston, so this is a welcoming party for the newly crowned interim champ. Prograis won the belt in impressive fashion this past March when he stopped veteran former world champion Julius Indongo in the second round.  Stopping Indongo came faster for Prograis than it did for pound for pound stud Terence Crawford, who put the first blemish on the now 22-2 Indongo’s record. Velasco is undefeated at 20-0 and he has experience fighting in the USA and Mexico as well as his native Argentina. Prograis is in a showcase here in his hometown and the odds show it.

Since Crawford’s departure to the welterweight division, the 140 pound weight class has been considered wide open. Prograis is poised to make his play in the weight class now as he is 29 years old. Kiryl Relikh holds the WBA title while American Maurice Hooker (24-0-3) holds the WBO world belt. Another pound for pound stud h6olds th6e IBF version of the world belt in Mikey Garcia while Prograis’ next opponent might be WBC world champ Jose Ramirez. Along with Brit Josh Taylor Prograis is considered the cream of the weight class.

Also expected to air on the ESPN broadcast is Teofimo Lopez’ bout with William Silva for the vacant WBC contiental America title at 135 pounds. Lopez is 9-0 as a pro and he is part of Arum’s 2016 Olympic haul that saw him sign a handful of fighters down in Rio. Lopez represented his native Honduras and he has been putting in the work since turning pro.

Facing Lopez is William Silva out of Brazil. Silva has a strong 25-1 record, and that is bolstered by his record of 4-1 in fights in the States. The lone loss of his career came against Puerto Rico’s highly regarded Felix Verdejo, and he went the full ten rounds. He has to be considered a step up in opponents for Lopez, who at just 20 years old is looking to take his pro career to another level.

In many ways, this is a bounce back fight for fresh faced Erick De Leon (17-0-1). This past march he stepped up to face Andy Vences with a pair of regional belts on the line and he came away with a draw. Don’t let Adrian Young’s name fool you, the Mexican fighter is a veteran who brings a 25-4-2 record to the match. He is 3-3 in his last six outings and this bout marks the first time he is fighting outside of Mexico.

The odds show Prograis ain’t the only one in a showcase. Check the odds below.
