St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey is in critical, but stable condition after being shot twice, at lease once in the head, while visiting family in Miami, Fla. Tuesday evening.

Baily, his cousin Antwan Reeves and three others, including two children, were all in the car when it came under fire. Reeves reportedly shielded the younger passengers and they weren’t hit. Reeves and Bailey were both shot. Reeves has life-threatening injuries. It isn’t belived as of now that Baley’s injuries are life-threatening.

According to police, Baley, Reeves and the three others were sitting in a car outside a Miami residence around 8:45 p.m. when another car pulled up along side them and at least one of the occupants of that car opened fire.

Bailey is resting in intensive care according to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and will undergo surgery Wednesday. The Rams released a statement shortly after the news hit.

“We are aware that Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening,” the Rams said. “We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

Bailey is currently under suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Bailey was scheduled to return to the field on Dec. 7.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher spoke to reporters about the incident this morning.

“All I know is that he’s currently in surgery,” Fisher said. ” And I discussed it with the team in the team meeting. We’re praying for him. Our hope is that Sted will get back on the field. When we get more information, it’ll be publicly disclosed through the organization.”

Fisher tells Cincy media that Stedman Bailey is currently in surgery.
