Vicente Marzilio, a sophomore on the men’s golf team, is no stranger to high-profile tournaments. The native of Argentina qualified as an individual for the NCAA Regionals as a freshman after winning the individual Conference USA championship. This winter, he competed in the Latin America Amateur Championship and narrowly missed out on a victory that would have granted him exemptions to the Masters and The Open Championship.

Marzilio is now poised to participate in the Norman NCAA Regional at Jimmie Austin Golf Club as the second-seeded individual, with a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championship May 27-June 1 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The tournament begins on Monday and concludes on Wednesday.

Marzilio stated, “I’m feeling fantastic about my season.” It was quite consistent, and I played excellent golf every week. I had a great opportunity to win my second college competition, but it didn’t work out, but I’m glad I put myself in that position again. It’s all about maintaining a constant position. The LAAC was crucial in my continued mental development. It raised the standard, pushed me, and fueled my enthusiasm for the season.” Marzilio was ranked No. 119 in the most recent Golfstat survey and has been the team’s leader all season, with a 72.88 scoring average and a season-low score of 66 at the Louisiana Classics.

Last year, he tied for 21st place at the Stillwater Regional and learned what it needed to be successful at the big leagues.
