Parker vs Whyte Odds

Parker vs Whyte Odds – July will see London’s O2 Arena host a high level heavyweight clash as former WBO world titlist Joseph Parker (24-1) faces Dillian Whyte (23-1). Both men have experienced a pro loss at the hands of Anthony Joshua, and the two are in line for another bout if they keep on winning.

Parker is the former WBO world champion until he lost the belt to Joshua. Opeating out of New Zealand a good deal of his competition coming up can be deemed local, but he has been guided by a boxing lifer in Kevin Barry and he has fought well on the world stage the last couple of years. Now that he has left New Zealand he is hoping to stay on the international scene and the bigger paydays. Going the distance with Joshua has been a feather in his cap.

For his part, Whyte extended Joshua to the seventh round before falling, but that was back in 2015.  Since then, Whyte has put in the work, going 7-0. Some of those wins were against lesser competition, but he also defeated Robert Helenius, Dereck Chisora and Lucas Brown in that span so he has put in “work” as well.

The sports books have the fight as a near pick ’em fight and on paper both men are very evenly matched. One factor that could come into play, especially in the early going of the fight is hand speed. Parker has the faster hands of the two, it will be interesting to see if he can set the pace for the fight from the start.

This match not only pits once-beaten heavyweights who are both still in their twenties, the winner may also serve as a back-up plan for Promoter Eddie Hearn as an opponent for Anthony Joshua.

Word broke earlier this week that WBC wordl heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has a contract in hand to face Wilder in London later this year. Hearn cannot move forward with the match until he has Wilder’s signature on the contract. But what if Wilder balks, or what if some other delaying factor emerges?

September 15th sees the rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez take place, and though Joshua-Wilder is a bigger fight, going head to head is not the best way to go about Joshua vs Wilder. If “Canelo” vs Triple G two is a stinker, will the crossover public be ready for another big money fight? Some boxing insiders feel WIlder and Joshua will not happen until 2019.

If that is the case, both Joshua and Wilder will require fights in the meantime, and the winner of Parker vs Whyte will be in a very good position. Should Parker win, a match-up between Parker and Wilder makes the most sense as promoter Hearn would likely want Joshua vs Parker 2 to simmer a while. Should Whyte win, he has already been talked about as an opponent for Wilder and with an 8-0 record since losing to Joshua, he would have a good case for a rematch as well.
