Karim Benzema’s proposed transfer to Al Hilal has reportedly been delayed, with sources indicating that the Saudi Ministry of Sport and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) have not yet given the green light. These entities oversee the recruitment and acquisition of high-profile players within the Saudi Pro League, and their involvement is vital to finalizing deals of this scale.

The French striker, currently playing in Saudi Arabia, had been linked with a potential move to Al Hilal, one of the most prominent clubs in the region. However, despite interest from the club and Benzema’s reported openness to the transfer, the deal has yet to progress past the preliminary stages due to the pending approval.

The Saudi Pro League has engaged in a period of high-profile signings in recent years, with the aim of growing the league’s international profile and on-field competitiveness. Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar have joined Saudi clubs during this campaign, with support often coming from government-backed entities like PIF, which is tasked with steering the Kingdom’s investment in sports and entertainment.

According to sources familiar with the matter, while Al Hilal remain interested in acquiring Benzema, the final decision rests with the Ministry of Sport and the PIF, who are assessing all financial and strategic implications before making any commitments. The delay could also be linked to considerations around league balance, existing contracts, and long-term planning by club and league administrators.

Benzema, a Ballon d’Or winner in 2022 and former Real Madrid forward, joined Saudi Arabian football in 2023. His performances and stature continue to attract attention, making him a highly desirable player for any team within the league. Still, no official agreement has been finalized, and with the transfer deadline approaching, time is becoming a critical factor.

Representatives from Al Hilal and the Saudi Pro League have not provided public comment as of this update.
