Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be out of action until after the NBA All-Star break due to an abdominal strain, the team confirmed on Sunday. The injury comes at a crucial point in the season as Oklahoma City continues to battle for playoff positioning in the Western Conference.

Gilgeous-Alexander, one of the league’s standout performers this season, has been a central figure in the Thunder’s success. The 25-year-old guard has consistently led the team in scoring and has been instrumental in directing the offense while contributing on the defensive end. He has earned All-Star selections in previous seasons and was expected to participate in this year’s festivities before the injury.

While the team has not specified an exact timetable for his return, they indicated that Gilgeous-Alexander will be reevaluated following the All-Star break. The break typically provides a pause in the schedule, giving players additional time to recover from injuries without missing significant game action. The Thunder are hopeful that the rest period, combined with treatment, will allow the guard to return quickly and at full strength.

In the meantime, the Thunder will look to other members of the roster to fill the void. Head coach Mark Daigneault faces the challenge of adjusting the rotation to account for the absence of his starting guard. Players such as Jalen Williams, Josh Giddey, and Cason Wallace may see expanded roles in Gilgeous-Alexander’s absence.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s influence on both ends of the court will be missed, but the Thunder remain focused on maintaining momentum heading into the second half of the season. Oklahoma City has emerged as one of the more promising young teams in the league, and their performance leading into the All-Star break will likely be a key factor in their playoff positioning.

The NBA All-Star break is set to begin in mid-February, after which the Thunder expect to provide an update on Gilgeous-Alexander’s recovery and readiness to return to action.
