Manning

Cut that meat! Cut that meat! The only group of people that may love Peyton Manning more than his family and Indianapolis Colts fans are NFL advertisers. Although he is now retired, Manning continues to be a mainstay on the small screen and is sure to make his presence felt during the 2018 Super Bowl commercials.

Over the course of the last two decades, Manning has done ads for a slew of companies. Sprint, DirecTV, MasterCard, Nationwide, Papa John’s, ESPN, Buick, Nerf, Oreo, Gatorade and NBC have all featured Manning in a commercial at some point, and he still has sponsorship deals with some of those companies. But will he be appearing in any 2018 Super Bowl commercials?

BetDSI.eu has several prop bets available to wager on for 2018 Super Bowl commercials.

How many commercials will Peyton Manning appear in during the broadcast?
Over 2.5 (-115)
Under 2.5 (-115)

AdWeek has a pretty in-depth list discussing which companies have and have not purchased ads for the Super Bowl. Although the list is by no means definitive, it is a great place to start when determining which side to take here.

As of now, we don’t appear to have confirmation that any of the companies that Manning is associated with are planning to run ads for 2018 Super Bowl commercials. Nationwide and Papa John’s have been the two companies that have used Manning the most in recent memory, but neither one may take part in this year’s extravaganza.

Papa John’s is in a little bit of a tiff with the NFL. The company didn’t buy an ad for the Super Bowl last year, and it appears likely to pass once again. Although they are the official pizza sponsor of the NFL, a rift has emerged between the two entities since founder and former CEO John Schnatter blamed NFL protests for declining profit margins with the company.

Schnatter has since been replaced as the CEO, but the pizza chain probably wants to come up with a new ad campaign. For years, we have seen Schnatter star in all of his own commercials, and his most frequent co-star has been Manning. This is not likely to continue with the Papa John out of the picture.

Whereas Papa John’s is moving away from Manning, Nationwide has embraced the signal caller whole-heartedly. Nationwide gave us the most depressing ad in Super Bowl history three years ago when they featured a dying boy in their multi-million dollar spot. The ad was panned by almost everyone, and the CMO left the company shortly after the game.

Nationwide may or may not have spots in the Super Bowl, but it is an almost certainty that Manning will be part of any commercial the company puts out. However, it doesn’t look like he will feature in any other ad campaign. That makes us like the under for this prop.

Will Eli Manning appear in a commercial during broadcast?
Yes -120
No -110

Eli has been in older brother’s shadow throughout his career. He doesn’t get the attention or the sponsorships that Peyton does, but he has featured in a few ads during his career. Eli teamed up with Peyton for spots with both ESPN, Reebok and DirecTV, and he has also been used in commercials for Citizen Watches, Visa and Toyota.

It seems likely that Eli will appear in at least one Super Bowl commercial. He currently has an advertising deal with Toyota, and the Japanese car giant has already confirmed it has bought two 60-second spots for the Super Bowl. While one will be focused on the Winter Olympics, set to kick off in a few weeks, the company has been more secretive about the other. Eli has been in at least three Toyota Camry commercials already this year, and I would bet he is in the second ad that Toyota has planned.

If Toyota doesn’t use Manning, Visa might. Visa seems like it will have at least two commercials for Super Bowl LII, and the credit card giant is traditionally one of the bigger spenders. Eli has been used in a few different spots by Visa and could feature in one of these ads.

Also, Citizen Watches will probably use Manning if they opt into an ad spot. They have used Eli in two previous Super Bowl ads, and there is no indication that they would do anything different if they purchased airtime.
