Canelo vs Khan Undercard Odds

Canelo vs Khan Undercard Odds – This weekend’s HBO Boxing  pay-per-view is headlined the middleweight title fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan. The live event takes place at Las Vegas’ new T-Mobile Arena and features nine fights in all promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. Four of the undercard fights are getting attention at the sport books.

In middleweight action, undefeated Patrick Teixeira (26-0) takes on veteran Curtis Stevens (27-5). Stevens went 8 rounds with Gennady Golovkin back in November of 2013 and he has a win over contender Tureano Johnson in April of 2014. His last fight came in October of 2014 when lost to Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and he has not fought in the eighteen months since then. Teixeira is a 25-year-old Brazilian who is undefeated, but is definitely stepping up the level of his opposition in this one.

Undefeated Featherweight Frankie Gomez (20-0) faces tough Mauricio Herrera (22-5). Gomez is just 24 years old and is trying to shed the “prospect” label, however he has, at times, appeared unfocused on his career. In Herrera he gets a battle tested veteran who has been in there with some of the best in the world and he has more than held his own. In his last fight, Herrera was cut over both eyes by accidental headbutts against Henry Lundy in July and when the fight was stopped in the fifth he was ahead on the cards.

More middleweight action as 10-0 Jason Quigley gets a step up fight as he faces James De La Rosa. De La Rosa is 23-3 overall but he is 3-3 in his last six fights against elevated competition. He too is coming off a layoff that saw him miss the entire calendar year of 2015. For Quigley, the 24-year-old is entering his first fight scheduled for ten rounds.

Another Middleweight bout sees veteran David Lemieux (34-3) return to face Glen Tapia (23-2). When last we saw the Canadian Lemieux he was having his body tenderized by Gennady Golovkin in a match that was wholly uncompetitive. A planned bounce back fight for Lemieux earlier this year at a small venue in his hometown fell apart when he failed to make weight. The fight already had a catch weight built in and he did not make that weight, so the fight fell apart. This opens up questions about whether Lemieux would be better suited moving up to 168 pounds, but he is here to fight at 160 lbs in this one.

Lemieux has incentive to win and look good in this one. The plan for Saul Alvarez is for him to face Gennady Golovkin in a middleweight showdown sometime in the near future.  If that match does not materialize for whatever reason, you can look for Oscar De La Hoya and GBP to try and sell the public a match between “Canelo” and Lemieux.
