Canelo vs Khan Odds For Saturday’s Mega-fight

Canelo vs Khan Odds – This Saturday HBO Boxing pay-per-view, Golden Boy Promotions and Las Vegas’ brand new T-Mobile Arena get together to bring you Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Amir Khan. The match is for Alvarez’ WBC World middleweight title and will be disputed at a “catch” weight of 155 lbs.

Alvarez is 46-1-1 and it seems like he has been around for a long time now. Despite this, he is still just 25 years old, and he and his mentor Oscar De La Hoya are already acting like he is the top draw in boxing and will be for years to come. The pair and their partners at HBO are going to ask upwards of $60 from the public to buy this event. What they all seemed to have ignored is that their enthusiasm at announcing this “superfight” was met with first surprise, then derision by the boxing world at large.

Alvarez and Golden Boy were staring at a big-time fight with Gennady Golovkin right in the face. But Alvarez’ insistence on catch weights de-railed that bout. The catchweight has long been used by smaller men to try to equalize things against bigger men, but “Canelo” and De La Hoya just look like fools in this case. Here, Alvarez will be the bigger man against Khan and the fight could easily have been at the official 160 lb middleweight limit, but Alvarez is going to force the 155 lb match against a smaller fighter.

It will be interesting to see how Khan responds. After years of looking for a “mega” fight and payday against Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, Khan finally has what he was looking for. The rumored haul for Khan is upwards of $14 million dollars for the fight so in some respects, Khan already has what he came for. If he can look good in the fight, Khan will be OK and if he can win somehow, he will be in the big time. If “Canelo” finds his glass jaw and flattens him in short order, then khan can go home and look for the best dollars to pounds conversion he can find.

For “Canelo” you can assume his haul will be at least twice of what Khan will make. But the benefits for him of this fight may just about end there. If he loses or is taken the distance by Khan, it will be viewed as a lackluster performance. Even a fast win where he knocks Khan out in three rounds or less, isn’t that what he was supposed to do?
