Floyd Mayweather is famous for being one of the greatest boxers of all time, but the man didn’t just earn his nickname “Money” because of his skills in the ring. No, Mayweather likes a friendly wager from time to time and his bets can get very friendly indeed. There’s little doubt that Mayweather will toss out some large cash on this year’s Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. The only question is, how much will he shell out?

Mayweather’s propensity to gamble for hefty sums has earned a reputation all on its own, more than enough to put Michael Jordan’s urge to toss around his money at the tables and golf courses to shame.
It doesn’t even have to be a major game for “Money” to slide some money at it. In September of 2017, he bet $50,000 on Colorado State to beat Hawaii in college football and publicly collected more than $45,000.

That was actually small potatoes for Mayweather. A careful bet, if you will. In 2012, he bet $1.1 million on Oregon to cover -7.5 against Arizona State. The Ducks won 43-21 and Mayweather collected the GDP of Vermont in the process.
It’s not all been roses and showers of cash for Mayweather. Back in 2014, he reportedly bet $10.4 million on the Denver Broncos to cover at -2 over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks ended up winning 43-8 so if you were wondering why Money made a comeback to fight Conor McGregor, that might explain it.
Either way, Mayweather has denied placing a bet of that size, but that’s probably just because the loss stung his pride more than his ample wallet.
Mayweather was part of a rumor of a multi-million dollar bet placed on the Philadelphia Eagles for Super Bowl LII at +5.5, but it was never confirmed. Considering Mayweather didn’t immediately show his slip on Instagram after the Eagles beat the Patriots, 41-33, it’s safe to say it wasn’t him.
It’s difficult to believe Mayweather will not be laying a wager on Super Bowl LIII, even without any real connection to the Rams or Patriots. What’s probably not on the table is a bet of over $2 million.
New England is currently the favorite. They opened after the NFC and AFC Championships concluded as a -1.5 favorite. It’s since moved up to -2.5 as plenty of money poured in on the Patriots’ side. That’s still basically a straight up bet, considering the final score of 95 percent of NFL games.
As of this writing, the biggest Super Bowl LIII bet that’s been released is $115,000 on the Patriots at -1.5 and $110,000 on the Pats at -1, both at MGM. The next closest released was a $63,750 bet at William Hill US. According to CG technology, all their five-figure bets have been on New England.
Mayweather could very well be behind any one of those numbers, but $2 million in this Super Bowl? That might be too rich even for a man named “Money.” If you like this prop, I say go under.
