Ramirez vs Angulo Odds

Ramirez vs Angulo Odds For ESPN Boxing – WBO world 168 lb champion Gilberto Ramirez (37-0) defends his belt against Roamer Alexis Angulo (23-0) this Saturday. The fight is the main event of Bob Arum and Top Rank’s nine fight boxing card scheduled for Oklahoma City and ESPN. Check your local listings for start times.

The 27 year old “Zurdo” Ramirez is the guy in Top Rank’s spotlight here.  Ramirez won the WBO version of the world title at super middleweight back in April of 2016 when he won a wide unanimous decision over veteran champion Arthur Abraham. Since then, Ramirez has made three successful title defenses including a 6th round stoppage win over Habib Ahmed this past February.

In Angulo, he is facing a 34 year old who brings a record that includes 20 knock outs in his 23 wins. Despite the impressive numbers his resume is built of on largely regional fair while Ramirez has spent the lat two years defending his world title.

The World Boxing Super Series Super Middleweight tournament finals are set for later this year between WBA champion George Groves and Callum Smith. The IBF’s world title is held by Jose Uzcategui as he stopped veteran Andre Dirrell this past March to grab the belt. Britain’s James DeGale holds a “super” world title with the IBF as well so there is good potential fights in the future for Ramirez.

Ramirez has been a heavy favorite in his title defenses and the line for this Saturday’s fight hints at an uncompetitive fight.

The co-feature sees undefeated 24 years old Alex Saucedo (27-0) step up to face veteran Leonardo Zappavigna (37-3) at 140 pounds.

Saucedo is of Mexican descent but he calls Oklahoma City home nowadays and do not discount the youngster benefitting from the home field advantage. he has not fought in his homestate since an October of 2015 six rounder on the undercard of Dierry Jean and Terence Crawford’s fight in Omaha. “Bud” Crawford is who Saucedo wants to emulate here as he returns to Omaha in a co-feature spot.

The Australian Zappavigna is a good test for Saucedo. In December of 2016 he took a loss to future world titlist Sergey Lipinets, extending the hard hitting Russian bomber into the eighth round. He went 2-0 in 2017, fighting a pair of “stay busy” eight round bouts. Zappavigna is content to play the spoiler in this one as he looks to impress and stay on the international circuit. At 30 years old, he may still have another run at the top left.

Saucedo is favored as he heads into this fight but Zappavigna is by far the most decorated and dangerous opponent he has faced. With the super lightweight division recently seeing Crawford move up to welterweight, Saucedo has a chance to be in the mix for a title shot against the current crop of title holders with a standout win.

Check back as we get closer to fight day to see if any of the other fights on the card are getting attention at the books. Below are the current lines for the two co-feature bouts.

Sat 6/30 – Chesapeake Energy Arena – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – ESPN
Super Middleweight 12 rounds –
Roamer Alexis Angulo +1400
Gilberto Ramirez -3600

Super Lightweight 10 rounds –

Alex Saucedo -475
