Brooks Koepka returned to the PGA Tour on Thursday, marking his first appearance since rejoining the circuit. Despite shooting a 1-over-par 73, it was the reception from fans at the course that defined the day for the former major champion.

Competing under clear skies and mild conditions, Koepka played a steady, albeit unspectacular, opening round. His 73 left him trailing the leaders, but the focus was less on his place on the leaderboard and more on the significance of his return to regular Tour competition.

“I was just happy to be back out here,” Koepka said after the round. “The support from the fans was amazing—it made me feel good just to be on the course again.”

Koepka’s presence drew significant attention leading up to the tournament. As he made his way through the round, fans applauded his shots and frequently offered words of support. The reception highlighted his enduring popularity and the excitement surrounding his decision to return to PGA Tour events.

While his round included several solid approaches and confident putts, a few missed opportunities on the greens held him back from finishing under par. Koepka did not record a birdie until the back nine and gave back strokes with a couple of bogeys that disrupted his momentum.

He will look to improve in the second round, aiming to make the cut and continue building his form as he reintegrates fully with the Tour schedule. Regardless of his score, the day represented a successful step forward for Koepka, who has dealt with a series of challenges in recent years.

As the tournament continues, all eyes will remain on how he performs in the coming rounds. But for now, Thursday marked a noteworthy chapter in his career—a day less about scorecards and more about presence and perseverance.
