Kristaps Porzingis returned to NBA action and made his Golden State Warriors debut in a 121-110 loss to the Boston Celtics, appearing in his first game since Jan. 7. The 7-foot-3 big man, who had been sidelined for more than a month, showed some expected rust but still delivered a noticeable boost in limited minutes.

Porzingis played 17 minutes and finished with 12 points, providing an offensive spark as he worked his way back into game rhythm. Early on, he appeared to be finding his timing and feel, adjusting to both live competition and a new system with Golden State. As the game progressed, he settled in, finding scoring opportunities and beginning to show how he could fit alongside his new teammates.

Golden State used Porzingis primarily as a floor-spacing big, allowing him to operate from the perimeter and midrange while also working in pick-and-pop situations. His shooting threat helped open the floor for the Warriors’ guards and wings, even when he was not the one taking the shot. On several possessions, his presence drew attention from Boston’s defense and created driving lanes and ball movement opportunities for Golden State.

Defensively, Porzingis worked to protect the rim and contest shots in the paint, using his length to alter attempts even when he did not record a block. The Celtics, familiar with his game from his previous stint in Boston, challenged him inside and forced him to move in space on the perimeter, testing his conditioning and mobility after the layoff.

While the Warriors were unable to close the gap on the scoreboard, Porzingis’ performance provided the team with a glimpse of the role he could play as he builds up his minutes. His scoring in short stretches, combined with his size and ability to stretch the floor, gave Golden State another offensive option and a different look in the frontcourt.

Given the length of his absence, the team managed his workload carefully, limiting his time on the floor and using shorter shifts to ease him back into game action. The focus for Porzingis now will be continuing to regain his conditioning, sharpening his timing on both ends, and developing chemistry within the Warriors’ rotations.

Despite the loss, his debut marked an important step in his return and offered positive signs that, as his rust wears off and his minutes increase, he could become a key contributor for Golden State over the remainder of the season.
