It may have been the worst kept secret in the NFL, but as of a quarter past eight Thursday night, the mystery was officially solved. New Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has his quarterback as the Cards took Oklahoma signal caller and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick.

  • Two more quarterbacks go in first round
  • Raiders are gonna Raider
  • Only two wide receivers taken in the first round

Arizona did not trade last year’s first round pick, Josh Rosen, on Day One of the draft which only adds more drama to Day Two Friday.

Two more quarterbacks go in first round

They may not have gone in the order projected or to the teams expected, but both Daniel Jones of Duke and Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State also heard their name called on the first day of the NFL’s Annual Selection Meeting. Jones went to the New York Giants at No. 6 overall as the heir apparent to Eli Manning. Haskins was selected by the Washington Redskins with the No. 15 pick. Drew Lock of Missouri is the only top quarterback prospect still available in the second round.

In the years to come in the NFC East, it will be Daniel Jones and the Giants vs. Dwayne Haskins and the Redskins. It will be the ultimate measuring stick.

Raiders are gonna Raider

Rumors swirled that the Oakland Raiders would reshuffle the draft and they did exactly that, reaching for Clelin Ferrell with the No. 4 overall pick. This is why they sent all their scouts home?

Here’s the thing about Clelin Ferrell to the #Raiders. If Mayock had been in his old job, telling us how much he liked Ferrell for the last couple months, everyone would think the team that took him at 4 was brilliant. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Only two wide receivers taken in the first round

It was a defense heavy draft from the second pick on, but perhaps the biggest surprise was that only two wide receivers were selected in the first round and both were picked after two tight ends. Incidentally, both those tight ends played for the same school (Iowa – T.J., Hockenson and Noah Fant). The Baltimore Ravens selected Oklahoma wideout Matquise Brown with the No. 25 pick. The New England Patriots picked N’Keal Harry out of Arizona State at No. 32.
