Washington Redskins linebacker Rueben Foster will not be suspended by the NFL after being arrested for domestic violence and battery last November in Tampa, Fla. All charges against Foster were dropped in January.

The former San Francisco 49ers linebacker will still pay a fine of two game checks.

The NFL released a statement on its decision.

“Today, the NFL notified Reuben Foster of the Washington Redskins that he will be fined two game checks following a review of recent incidents and an assessment of his adherence to obligations arising from previous violations of league policies,” The NFL said in the statement. “Following a thorough investigation, the evidence did not support a finding that Foster vciolated the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy in connection with the Tampa incident in November 2018. The NFL has returned Foster to the active roster from the Commissioner Exempt list. He may fully participate in all team activities.”

It was not the first time the former Alabama star ran afoul of the law, but with no charges filed here, the NFL decided to tread lightly. It probably has more to do with the upcoming Collective Bargaining Negotiations with the NFL Player’s Association than it does any fair treatment of Foster.

“Foster has acknowledged that he is responsible for his actions, and he has committed to a comprehensive accountability plan developed by the league, the NFLPA, and the Washington Redskins to help him grow personally and avoid future misconduct,” The NFL said. “Foster was advised that any future incidents will likely result in more substantial discipline.”

Foster was cut by the 49ers, who drafted him at No. 31 in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Alabama, after the November arrest. He was signed shortly after by the Redskins, to much public scorn.

In 16 total starts, Foster has 101 tackles with 10 for a loss.

Panthers and Jets sign free agents

The Carolina Panthers added former New England Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan to their roster. Last season Hogan started seven games and appeared in all 16 for the Patriots, catching 35 passes for 532 yards and three touchdowns.

The #Panthers added WR help late in the process, signing former #Patriots WR Chris Hogan to a 1-year deal.

Ty Montomery will play for his third team in two seasons after signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets on Thursday. Last year, with the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens, Montgomery carried the ball for 188 yards and a touchdown, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

It’s a veteran minimum deal for Ty Montgomery, per sources. He also got a $90K signing bonus/roster bonus.

Good value for the Jets.
