Postol vs Taylor Odds – This Saturday night in Scotland, Josh Taylor (12-0) takes on Viktor Postol (29-1) for the WBC version of the “silver” title at super lightweight. For Taylor, the popular Olympian out of Glasgow, Postol represents a step up in competition and the fight is considered a test for the 27 year old. But how stiff a test remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

On paper, Postol is a former world champion whose only career loss comes to Terence Crawford back in July of 2016. Crawford is now listed as one of the top two pound for pound fighters in the world as he united the the four major world title belts at 140 pounds. Postol entered the fight with Crawford at even odds but once the action started, Postol barely won a round.<\/p>\n

After the loss to Crawford, Postol took a layoff of fourteen months. That could be considered the first bad sign. For his return, he went home to the Ukraine to face a fighter with 14 fights and one ten rounder under his belt. As expected, Postol outboxed his opponent but Postol got dropped in round five. Now firmly in his mid-thirties, it is fair to say that we have probably seen the best Postol has to offer already.<\/p>\n

Taylor is riding a wave of support ever since turning pro. Postol is by far the most seasoned opponent he has faced yet so a win for Taylor would send a message that he is ready for the world title scene.<\/p>\n

Taylor is aggressive and he likes to work the body. Postol may get his chin tested in this one early and if he does hold up, Taylor will likely settle in and soften up the body. Knocking Postol out after he went the distance with Crawford ould tell us one of two things – the Crawford fight took Postol’s soul, or Josh Taylor is ready for the big time.<\/p>\n

Whatever is said about the fight, the odds are slanted heavily for Taylor. Some may find value on Postol as an underdog.<\/p>\n

This was to be the weekend that WBO world middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders met fellow countryman Martin Murray, but their much anticipated bout was cancelled by Saunders due to an injury.<\/p>\n

Murray is a hard working veteran who still has designs of winning a world title.\u00a0 At 36-4-1 overall, he has put together a three fight winning streak since falling to George Groves in a world title fight at Super Middleweight. Instead of Saunders, he gets late replacement Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia (41-3), a hard worker out of Texas who has put together a twelve fight winning streak since his May of 2o10 loss to Antonio Margarito. Garcia is a bit slow of foot but he is a grinder who likes to get inside and bludgeon his opponents.<\/p>\n

Promoter Barry McGuigan has the Postol vs Taylor fight set to air on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, while Murray vs Garcia headlines Frank Warren’s show at the O2 Arena and is set to air on BT Sport.\u00a0Check your local listings for start times.<\/p>\n
